Maggie isn't girly, sorry asked the question to others:
my dog has a tick (first one)
and i was an idiot and tryed to remove it with tweezers. but it was feeding and bit down and now it wont let goits on his belly. i need a way to make it let go so i can remove it without crushing it and tearing it into little pices like i REALY want to.
how do you make it let go?
i have tryed tweezers but he is feeding and wont let go and i REALY cant grip his head so how to i get him to LET GO!

Pull it off, kill it, throw it away. KILL IT so it won’t multiply and put more on your dog…. You have to makesure you pull out the head as well!
(squeeze it with your nails, it’ll do the job)
You have to smother with something thick like olive oil or nail polish. It’ll back out once it can’t breathe.
NEVER EVER PULL IT OUT!!!!!!! If you leave the head, you run the risk of still infesting your dog with whatever disease ticks carry.
Try some alcohol, then try again with the tweezers. Get a good grip on the tick and don’t pull out….pull it horizontally away to make sure you get all of the tick. Good luck! I hate ticks! Me and my dog both had one on us yesterday! Nasty little things.
Pull it off and burn that sucker! I heard it’s the only way they’ll die
Heat the tweezers up and then pick it off, it rarely fails.
And then when you get it, throw it outside so it doesn’t get back at your dog, or you can decide to kill it.
If you recognise it as a poisonous tick, get to the vet A.S.A.P.
It helps to have a special pair of tick tweesers on hand.
Rub the tick in a circular motion and pretend you’re trying to make the tick dizzy.stick. Stick with one direction, clockwise. It usually takes less than a minute, so if it’s not working, make sure the body of the tick is moving around. Remember you can’t get dizzy unless you’re actually moving in a circle, quickly. I doubt the tick actually gets dizzy, but they sure don’t like something about the movement and they crawl out on their own.
Hi,
If your dog has been seen by a vet recently then go to your practice or surgery and ask for a product with “Amitraz” in it. It is an effective tick killer. “Pro Meris” made by Fort Dodge, is an effective flea and tick treatment, and I find that it works quite well against ticks.
Do not attempt to pull it out as you could leave the mouthparts in the body and this can cause secondary infections.
Smothering it can cause regurgitation by the tick which can also cause infection.
Hope this helps.
light a match, put it out, place the still hoy tip on the tick, it should let go, MAKE SURE YHAT THE TWEEZERS ARE ON IT WHILE YOU DO THIS, other wise it will get away. save the tick in a plasitc baggy and take it to the vet to see if it carried a disease.
First of all, ticks can survive for days without air so smothering it with anything isn’t going to help it loosen its grip. Use the tweezers, get as close to the skin as possible, trying to get the pincers and head in your grip, and then pull it off. The entire tick should come off. Wrap the tick in a tissue and flush it immediately, then apply some antibiotic to the area where the tick was on the dog to help stop it from getting infected–there will be a small hole there, whether you see it or not, from where the tick was feeding.
VODKA! or if you’ve got some surgical spirit, pour some on the cotton wool and dab it on the tick, this will sufforcate it, causing it to losen its grip! get some tweezers and make sure you’ve got the head, grab, twist and pull!!
but watch out for a tick bite abcess, if one appears take her to your vet!
if you got a little bowl that you can pour some surgical spirit in, put the tick in there… that will kill it!
if all else fails, contact your vet, if its white, youve got time to take your dog to the vet to get it off, cuz its only just attached, if its grey, try and get it off your self, its finished feeding… ticks will generally fall off and crawl into corners untill they are ready to feed again, and they are not picky whos blood they will eat!!
if you go to your vets and get frontline, this will prevent them coming back, if you get the spray, you can spray that around the room, especially corners, dont use the flea and tick collors because the chemicals are concentated to one area, if your dog is sensitive these may cause a reaction! also you can get special tick grabber things from your vet! these work a treat! they are called, Otom, the website is
hope this helped
and i hope you get it off
You want to get out that tick. Usually tweezers would work. Grab closest to the head. I’ve also heard a lit match then blow out then touch the tick and it will make it pull out because its hot. If not, you would want to take your dog to the vet to get it out. They do have sprays for dogs if your going out to keep away those ticks.
I work at a vet. It’s okay – you can pull it off. If you didn’t get the head, it will fester a little and eventually work itself out. No Big deal! You can try rubbing it with alcohol, but it really wil fix itself!
try some mineral oil on it, then try a get it off, front line will kill it within 48 hrs, it’s hard to pull them off, but just keep pressure on the tweezers, make sure you don’t her skin, I’m not being a smart a** but it’s easy to do, I did once, when yu get it out it is possible part my me left, i always put some peroxide(no alcohol, it burns) and then an antibiotic cream like neosprin, it it start to look infected call the Vet, it may be red the next day That usually normal, but yo’ll know if it doesnt look right. Good Luck
put some peroxide on it to make let go and then kill it. getting some Frontline flea and tick. My sisters use it and it works great!
pull it out with your fingers and then flush it down the toilet!
****First, look online for a LOT of bad reports of Promeris reactions!!!!
This appears to be another case of releasing a product before they tested it well enough, and a lot of bad things have happened very quickly.
Second, there is a veryu good product that will keep ticks either unattached or dying, and is generally recommended by the tick researchers – a Preventic Collar, available for about $10, has a very tiny amount of amitraz impreganating a plastic collar. It looks like an old time flea collar, but is quite safe and only has the amount needed to get rid of ticks.
Straight amitraz is quite toxic, and can also cause bad reactions in dogs, but the Preventic has so little in it, the ticks are the only ones that need worry. the collars work for 3 months, so they are a bargain, and can be used with Frontline (for fleas, it doesn’t seem to repel ticks for as long) with no ill effects.
Anytime you try and take a tick off a dog, or you for that matter, keep in mind the tick must have a blood meal to expel the viruses that cause disease, but that has been seen happening within 3-4 hours, despite the former 12-18 hours that was thought tobe the minimum… and are often in the mouth parts, so it’s important to get the whole thing. Some mineral oil or alcohol should help – and if it’s an imbedded nymph (baby) tick, you may or may not be able to get it out…
Ticks suck!
