If you don’t pull them off, they simply fill up with blood, fall off and create more ticks! Gross, I know, but you need to pull them off.

You need to pull them off… sorry. If you don’t want to use your fingers, use a pair of tweezers.

You can help prevent ticks on your dog with a parasiticide like Frontline, Advantage or Revolution.

Some flea baths kill ticks and they drop of themsleves.
If you put neat alchole on them they become drunk and you can almost brush them off. I have heard although never tried nail varnish remover does the same thing.

The only sure way to remove them is to grip them as low down against the skin with tweazers ideally and twist and pull away. Do no just pull them off as the head can be left in and become infected. Vets will gladly do this for you and a groomers provided you tell them in advance and ask if they will as to no comtaminate ther rest of the dogs there. Eg take just as they are closing will probably do it too.

Sorry that is the only way as they burrow into the skin and feed off the dog’s blood. Use tweezers, Not your hands – and then put the tick in alcohol to kill it. Do not burn them off, or try to use Vaseline to suffocate them, or flush them down the toilet. Also you can give your dog the Lyme disease vaccine.
